Generous food lovers dug deep for the privilege of shopping at an award winning fine food store, helping to raise almost £1,200 for a childrens hospice. Shoppers flocked to Lewis & Coopers annual Pre-Noel fund raising event, having made a donation of up to £2.50 each to Zoës Place, a hospice in Normanby, Middlesbrough.

Opened in 2004, the hospice provides respite care for almost 60 families, caring for babies and infants from across the region with multiple special needs and life-limiting or terminal illnesses.

In return, the Northallerton food and drink emporium laid on money saving offers and competitions, cookery demonstrations and tastings of fine foods and wine, and preparation ideas from dozens of its specialist suppliers.

A grateful Derrick Previll, Zoës Place volunteer co-ordinator, said: I received many positive comments of support from the happy shoppers on the day.

The money raised will go to providing much-needed care for our
children, giving their families a break from the day-to-day demands of their medical care.

The £1,188.07 raised from entry fees and a tombola on Sunday will add to the £2,334.35 already amassed for the hospice since Lewis & Cooper adopted Zöes Place as its nominated charity last year.

Bettina Bell, general manager, said: Our fantastic customers and suppliers braved dreadful weather and road closures to get to us on Sunday and were really grateful for their dedication. Everyone had a great day, and its fantastic to have raised so much for such a brilliant cause.
