It couldn't be easier

What do we mean by local food?

Well, very simply, it’s all food which is produced from livestock (including fish) which is raised within the North Yorkshire County boundary, and food crops and vegetables grown within the North Yorkshire County boundary.

We will also include ‘value added’ foods which are made primarily from local produce, but which do include other ingredients.

Most importantly they must have significant local produce content. This means that cheese made from North Yorkshire milk will be included, but cheese made from imported milk will not. Even if it is manufactured in North Yorkshire.

Similarly, products such as sausages must contain North Yorkshire meat.

We will also include:

  • Shops and retail outlets which feature a significant amount of ‘Local Produce’, although they may also stock a range of other good food
  • Restaurants, pubs and cafes which are committed to sourcing local ingredients wherever possible

Please note North Yorkshire County Council reserves the right to refrain from including your details on the website if you fail to meet our eligibility criteria.
