Hovingham Village Market has been declared the UKs greenest market.
The not-for-profit Hovingham Village Market, a community market established just
over 12 months ago, has been crowned as the UKs Greenest Market by the National
Market Traders Federation. The Ryedale market beat off strong competition from
markets across the country in a contest to find the most environmentally aware market
with the most effective green practices. This was announced at their annual awards
ceremony today.
Entries were judged in three geographical areas û North, Midlands and South and
there was a category for the most improved green market as well as the coveted
national accolade of the UKÆs Greenest Market which went to The Hovingham Village
Market.
Mark Woolley, chair of the Hovingham Market Group, stated ôthis award is real
recognition for the fantastic success of the communityÆs achievement for the market to
be green and to promote shopping for local produce and support for rural businesses.
Our community, stall holders and our volunteer market team must be congratulated in
this success, they have supported and practiced the markets green credentials and
this has now achieved national recognition.ö
The Market, with over 40 stalls and held at Hovingham Village Hall, runs on the 1st
Saturday of every month (except January).
Crispy Roast Goose
Goose is relatively expensive but a little goes a long way. It is a rich, fairly fatty meat but it has a completely delicious flavour. Whatever you do, do not throw away the fat - it is perfect for roasting your spuds, in fact, once you have tasted potatoes roasted in goose fat, nothing will ever be quite the same!
