Peter Thundcliffe joins the Perns
An award-winning fishmonger is bringing a taste of the Yorkshire coast to Ryedale when he opens a shop in Helmsley shop this month and it could mean the creation of several jobs.
Located adjacent to the Perns shop it will be named The Star Fish by Thundercliffes of Scarborough.
The business is an expansion for fishmonger Peter Thundercliffe who opened a shop in Scarborough five years ago, has a mobile fish round in Ryedale and who attends Hovingham village market on the first Saturday of each month.
He has had a long career in the fish industry and has been a fish craft award winner at the British Fishcraft Awards run by The National Federation of Fishmongers.
The Star Fish by Thundercliffes will sell fresh fish and shellfish such as cod, haddock, plaice, Dover sole, crab and lobster landed into Scarborough, Bridlington, Filey and Whitby, and in-season fish including wild sea bass, wild salmon and sea trout, plus squid, red mullet and sea bream which are now being caught along the Yorkshire coast
Mr Thundercliffe said: We already supply The Star Inn with fish and shellfish and I am grateful to Andrew and Jacquie Pern for the opportunity to supply to the people and visitors of Helmsley.
The shop will be open Tuesday to Saturday, and Mr Thundercliffe hopes to be able to create a number of new jobs as the business builds up.

Crispy Roast Goose
Goose is relatively expensive but a little goes a long way. It is a rich, fairly fatty meat but it has a completely delicious flavour. Whatever you do, do not throw away the fat - it is perfect for roasting your spuds, in fact, once you have tasted potatoes roasted in goose fat, nothing will ever be quite the same!
