The Black Swan at Oldstead is one of only three restaurants to be newly listed as a Rising Star in The Michelin Great Britain & Ireland 2010 Guide.

The famous Red Guide picks out Rising Star restaurants as the gourmet dining stars of tomorrow identifying them as being in line for a Michelin Star in the future. Readers are particularly asked to try the Rising Star restaurants for themselves with an invitation to send their comments and opinions to the editors.

Michelin describes The Black Swan at Oldstead as:Family run, with smart, first floor dining room and rustic downstairs bar. Highly competent, modern cooking makes use of the finest local produce. Antique furnished bedrooms and luxury bathrooms.

Anne Banks from The Black Swan says, Its fantastic to have this from Michelin. It really sets us apart as one of the best restaurants in Yorkshire. We are absolutely delighted

Recognition by Michelin adds to the meteoric rise of The Black Swan at Oldstead which has recently seen The AA award 5 Yellow Stars for the superb bedroom accommodation. Yellow Stars are the highest rating which is only given to the top 10% of Five Star establishments. The Black Swan is now unique in Yorkshire as the only Two AA Rosette Restaurant with 5 Yellow Star Rooms.

Information about The Black Swan:

The Black Swan at Oldstead is a highly acclaimed pub and restaurant set in a stunning rural location near Byland Abbey in The North York Moors National Park. It is owned and run by The Banks Family from Oldstead Grange who have lived and farmed at Oldstead for generations. Tom and Anne Banks bought the Black Swan in 2006 to save it from dereliction and to provide a living for their two sons, James and Tommy. All four members of the family are totally involved in the business. James manages the front of house and Tommy works as a chef in the kitchen. Tom and Anne manage the business, in between running the farm and Oldstead Grange Bed and Breakfast, and can often be found behind the bar or restaurant.

Adam Jackson heads a team of talented and enthusiastic chefs in the kitchen.

As farmers the family have always been producers and so they understand how important it is to have their local produce championed in restaurants. British farmers know that meat from other countries is not produced to the same standards as it is here and for this reason they catagorically do not use any meat that is not British.

Awarded One AA Rosette in 2008 and Two AA Rosettes in April 2009, and now with recognition from Michelin, the once humble Black Swan is now rated as one of the best restaurants in Yorkshire.
