The scheme, launched in Bedale last month, rewards cardholders with offers and discounts when purchasing from participating stores.

Customers are able to sign up for a loyalty reward card, for a one-off payment of £2.50 from one of the members businesses, or by visiting www.shoplocalny.co.uk.

Cath Grimsey, treasurer of the Bedale Chamber of Trade and Tourism, is leading the ShopLocal scheme, which has now attracted over 40 businesses and is expanding into other towns, including Masham and Northallerton.

She states In North Yorkshire we are blessed with a diverse array of local independent shops, pubs, restaurants, craft workshops and businesses providing both essential and luxury products and services at prices realistic to our pockets.

Loyalty is key to retaining businesses in the local area and what better way to support both them than through the scheme where customers also benefit by saving money, economising on petrol and reducing food miles and creating a community hub for the local town.

If you are a business and would like to join the scheme please contact Cath Grimsey on 08443 573 980 or email [email protected] . You can also visit their website at www.shoplocalny.co.uk
